Dr Khong graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Singapore in 1977. After housemanship he was enlisted in full-time National Service for 2½ years. He completed NS as Captain in the Medical Corps and ended his NS liabilities as Lieutenant-Colonel commanding a Combat Surgical Hospital. He trained in General, Plastic and Orthopaedic Surgery before graduating as an “orthopod” in 1983.
He worked in Singapore General Hospital and Alexandra Hospital for the next 17 years. In 1985-1987, he was awarded a government scholarship to be the first Singapore surgeon to specialise in musculoskeletal tumour surgery at the Mayo Clinic and University of Florida. In 1994, he received further fellowship training in Orthopaedic Trauma at the Shock Trauma Centre in Baltimore. Both subspecialties remain his main practice today, besides doing sports surgery and joint reconstruction and replacement. Since 1990, he is teaching faculty for trauma and tumour surgery in Singapore, Asia, USA and Europe. He is appointed Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore and expert consultant to Zimmer Inc of USA since 2001.
His current practice located at Farrer Park Medical Centre, provides Consultation, Radiology, Day Surgery and Rehabilitation services all under one roof. The one-stop orthopaedic centre aims to provide seamless healthcare to patients ruling out the need to commute to an external location for radiology, surgery and rehabilitation.
