Dr Ng Kheng Hong graduated from Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore and subsequently obtained his post-graduate MRCS in 2002. After the attainment of Master of Medicine in Surgery in the following year, he started his Advance Surgical Training in General Surgery with Singapore General Hospital. In 2006, he was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeon, Edinburgh after successful completion of his advanced surgical training. In the same year, he was awarded the SingHealth HMDP award for further training in advanced laparoscopic surgery. Dr Ng has a very keen interest in laparoscopic surgery, especially in the use of Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery in various general surgical procedures, like appendicetomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repair and colorectal cancer surgery. He is one of the pioneers in the use of this technique in colorectal surgery. To date, he has performed more than 30 cases using this technique. As a result, he had been invited to give lectures on this advanced laparoscopic technique both locally and internationally.

Dr Ng has also a very keen interest in Robotic-assisted Surgery and championed the use of robotics in various surgical disciplines with the subsequent formation of Singapore General Hospital tripartite Da Vinci Robotic Assisted Surgery Project in 2008. This effort paved the way for the use of robotics in various departments and the purchase of the new da Vinci Si Dual Console robotic system. In 2009, he was appointed as the Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery.
